While we are enjoying an early spring break down in Destin we know that Spring Break is just around the corner for most of Metro Atlanta. So, the question is, what to do with your kids while they are home? If you don’t have a trip planned – and really, given the economy and the cost of gas who can blame you – check out some of these Spring Break activities that are right in your urban backyard!

Georgia Aquarium H20 Camp:

Explore the world’s largest aquarium while on break from school. This camp is open to children ages 5-11 and includes animal encounters, behind-the-scenes experiences, opportunities to meet the biologists and much more. Program Dates: April 5 – 9, 2010 (Camp is offered the same week as Fulton County Spring Break)

Times:
Drop off: 8:30 – 9 a.m.
Camp Start: 9 a.m.
Camp End: 4 p.m.
Pick up: 4 – 4:15 p.m.

Regular Rate: $70 per day or $350 per week

Give your children a wild adventure with spring break at the Zoo! Campers will rave about up-close-and-personal encounters with animals, keeper talks, bird shows, crafts, train and carousel rides and fun themed games. Each day is unique.

Imagine It Children’s Museum Safety Circus:

The Second Annual Safety Circus is coming to town! Imagine It is partnering with Children’s Health Care of Atlanta, Safe Kids Georgia, Georgia Ready and Kaiser Permanente to create a fun, educational event that teaches parents and children about water safety, bike helmet safety, home and fire safety, car seat installation, and child passenger safety.  The Imaginators will be on hand to demonstrate and to help the kids remember what was learned!

Atlanta Botanical Garden Spring Break Camp:

Celebrate the splendid spring season and discover the spectacular flowers and animals emerging from winter slumber. As the weather warms, the natural world begins preparing for the warm summer season. Come and learn more about this fascinating process and enjoy two glorious Garden mornings of exploration, activities and artwork.

Fee: $60 per child (Members $50), ages 4 – 6

Spring Break Sleepover at Fernbank Museum:

Pack your sleeping bag and get ready for the ultimate Spring Break Sleepover at Fernbank Museum. Campers will enjoy hands-on activities as they search for clues to find a hidden artifact, get an up-close look at animals that stay awake all night during a nocturnal animal encounter, and get their groove on during a family dance party under the dinosaurs. The Spring Break Sleepover also includes a light dinner, continental breakfast and a private screening of the IMAX® film Forces of Nature.

Come make new friends and enjoy fun, hands-on beekeeping activities that will show you what it is to be a beekeeper.  Students will explore honey bee biology, assemble beehive equipment, establish honey bee colonies, maintain the observation bee hive, harvest and extract honey, cook with honey, and learn to assess the condition of a honey bee colony and its needs.

Come for an afternoon of coloring at the Contemporary! We‘ve turned Substitute Teacher into a coloring and activity book for children and parents to work on together. It features images to color in, a word search to decipher, sentences to complete, and dots to connect. The book is a fun way to play and learn, using contemporary art to prompt questions about geography, symbols, language, and professions. Ideally suited for children between the ages of 4-10.

Check out the link for a whole list of activities at Stone Mountain. Climb high up in the trees on Sky Hike, the one of the country’s largest adventure ropes courses, that is fun for the whole family. Stop by the 4D Theater and engage your senses while taking a Journey to the Center of the Earth. Other Spring Fun Break activities include live entertainment such as Laughing Pizza, Hilda: A Very Loyal Goat, and Storytelling. Your kids are sure to have fun participating in the Easter Parade as they march through the town of Crossroads. The Lasershow Spectacular can also be seen nightly during Spring FUN Break.
